Blogging at the Fine Arts Center
Yet again, heh, I've been cast and am acting in a show. This time it's a musical version of A Christmas Carol (no, not Scrooge!) and it's at the Fine Arts Center (FAC) here in town. Pirates of Penzance is Best Musical
Back in May/June 2006, I appeared as a pirate in Pirates of Penzance for the Rep at the Fine Arts Center. It was a fun show to do, although I didn't have that big a part (as a role, it was more visual than vocal). Anyway, John Moore, the theater critic for The Denver Post, really liked it, so much so that we won Best Musical in the Denver Post Ovation Awards for 2006, beating out some extremely stiff competition. Chris Sheley, our set designer, also won Best Set Design. Congratulations to everyone in the cast and crew, and of course to Sandy Bray, our director and the FAC's Artistic Director at the time.

My First Play
I was ferreting around in the basement this morning looking for something completely different, when I came across the programme and a photo of the cast of the very first play I was in. Oh, man! This one takes me back. Waaaay back. It was just before my seventeenth birthday, I was in the Lower Sixth at Ernest Bailey Grammar School in Matlock (that's in Derbyshire, England for my non-UK readers, and for my American readers it's pronounced "darby-shih"), and I had a part in The Diary of Anne Frank. Cabaret is awarded Best Musical
Wow, this is bloody beautiful. Back in February, with three performances every weekend, the Rep at the Fine Arts Center produced Cabaret, the musical. I directed it, and it was my first time at directing a musical. Today the Gazette (the local paper) published its "Best Of" for the period June 2004 to May 2005 and Cabaret was awarded Best Musical.
