What Happened to Harold?

Harold in What Happened to Harold? by Amy Pieri, for The Arts Uprise, at the Millibo Art Theatre. Directed by Lynne Hastings. September 2026. 3 performances.
This was a one-act play, part of the Seventh Uprise production. There were two other one-act plays in the production as well, ours being the first in the sequence.
The play was quite fun since it proposed that the ancient Greek gods are going to come together to save the human race in America from modern divisive politics. Zeus gets the Fates (Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos) to return to Earth along with Hermes to sort things out. They set themselves up in a house in America and change their names to something normal. Next door is Harold and he is regretting his support for the current government and wants to change things back.
For me, the play was a bit difficult. Firstly, because I am not a Harold and would never vote like he did. So, his various little speeches describing his regrets required some extra acting (ha!). Secondly, learning those speeches was a little hard: which comes first? And which is after this bit of dialog with Atty? Etc. Thirdly, I had to wear a red MAGA hat. Yikes!
It was fun being in this Arts Uprise production, especially given the number of people in it or helping with it that I knew from other productions and hadn't seen in ages. Obviously Lynne (since she was the director), and Jane and Ashley, but there was also Barbara Summerville, Tom Paradise, and Warren Epstein in the other two plays. Plus Melissa Hafter and Kathy Paradise as producers. Wonderful.
